요약: RenewTube는 사용자의 어떠한 개인정보도 수집하지 않습니다. 계정도, 분석 도구도, 원격 수집(Telemetry)도 없습니다. 사용자나 시청 기록에 관한 어떠한 정보도 외부 서버로 전송되지 않으며, 모든 설정값은 오직 사용자의 브라우저(기기 로컬)에만 저장됩니다.

1. 수집하는 정보

수집하는 정보가 전혀 없습니다.
RenewTube는 사용자의 식별 정보, 시청한 영상 및 검색 기록, IP 주소 등을 수집·저장·전송·판매하지 않습니다. 또한 자체 분석(Analytics)이나 광고 추적 코드가 일절 포함되어 있지 않습니다.

2. 기기(로컬 브라우저)에만 남는 것

플레이어 사용에 필요한 최소한의 설정값은 사용자 기기의 브라우저 로컬 저장소(chrome.storage.local 및 localStorage)에만 보관됩니다:

재생 모드 선택 (음악 모드 / 영상 모드)
반복 재생 및 무작위(셔플) 재생 설정
현재 재생 중인 대기열(Queue) 상태
플레이어 음량 및 가사 표시 여부
다크/라이트 화면 테마 설정
배터리 절약 모드 설정

이 데이터는 오직 사용자의 원활한 감상 연속성을 위해서만 사용되며, 우리는 어떤 데이터도 열람하거나 수집하지 못합니다. 브라우저 캐시를 비우거나 확장을 삭제하면 기기에서 즉시 완전히 지워집니다.

3. 확장이 하는 네트워크 통신

RenewTube는 자체적인 백엔드 서버를 일절 운영하지 않습니다.

유튜브 서버와의 직접 통신: 영상 검색, 채널 목록 조회, 미디어 스트리밍은 사용자의 브라우저에서 유튜브 공식 서버(youtube.com, googlevideo.com)로 직접 전달됩니다. 이는 일반 브라우저로 유튜브를 시청할 때와 완벽히 동일하며, RenewTube가 데이터를 중계하거나 가로채지 않습니다.
가사 조회 (lrclib.net): 가사를 켜면 지금 재생 중인 곡의 제목과 아티스트명이 공개 가사 데이터베이스인 lrclib.net으로 전송됩니다. 가사를 켤 때만 요청하며 계정 정보나 식별자는 함께 보내지 않습니다. 유튜브 자막에서 가사를 찾은 경우에는 이 요청이 발생하지 않습니다.
썸네일 이미지 (i.ytimg.com): 목록과 재생 막대의 앨범 그림은 유튜브의 이미지 서버에서 직접 내려받습니다.
외부 추적 및 광고 차단: 외부 통계 분석기, 원격 텔레메트리 서버, 광고 네트워크 등으로의 통신은 1바이트도 발생하지 않습니다.

4. 요청하는 권한과 필요 이유

storage — 사용자의 재생 모드, 테마, 음량 등의 환경설정을 사용자 기기 로컬에 안전하게 저장하기 위해 사용합니다.
호스트 권한 (https://*.youtube.com/*) — 유튜브 웹페이지 접속 시 복잡한 화면을 심플한 플레이어 셸 구조로 재구성하고 컨트롤하기 위해 필요합니다. 유튜브 이외의 웹페이지에서는 이 확장이 실행되지 않습니다. 다만 가사를 켜면 3항의 lrclib.net 요청이 발생합니다.

5. 제3자 서비스

RenewTube는 유튜브 웹사이트 위에서 동작하므로, 영상 스트리밍과 로그인 세션은 Google LLC의 자체 개인정보 보호정책을 따릅니다. RenewTube는 사용자의 비밀번호나 인증 정보에 절대 접근할 수 없습니다. 가사 기능은 공개 가사 데이터베이스인 lrclib.net을 사용하며 그 서비스의 정책이 함께 적용됩니다. 곡 제목과 아티스트명만 전달합니다.

6. 아동 보호

RenewTube는 만 13세 미만 아동을 포함하여 어떠한 연령의 사용자 데이터도 수집하지 않습니다.

7. 오픈소스 투명성

RenewTube는 MIT 라이선스 하에 투명하게 공개된 오픈소스 소프트웨어입니다. 소스 코드의 단 한 줄까지 GitHub에서 직접 열람하고 검증하실 수 있습니다: github.com/jshsakura/renewtube

Privacy Policy

Short version: RenewTube collects zero personal data. It has no accounts, no analytics, and no telemetry tracking. Everything stays strictly on your local device, and nothing about your browsing or playback ever leaves your browser.

1. What We Collect

Nothing.
The extension does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data, playback history, searches, IP addresses, or device identifiers. It contains no tracking, telemetry, or advertising code.

2. What Stays on Your Device

Only your local preferences are stored on your device using your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local and localStorage):

Playback mode preference (Music mode vs Video mode)
Repeat and shuffle playback toggles
Current local queue state
Player volume and lyric visibility
Dark and light appearance theme
Battery saver setting

We never receive or access this information. You can clear these settings at any time by clearing your browser cache or uninstalling the extension.

3. Network Requests the Extension Makes

RenewTube operates no backend servers.

Direct YouTube communication: Video searches, playlist retrieval, and media playback streams are fetched directly between your browser and YouTube's official servers (youtube.com, googlevideo.com). RenewTube never proxies or intercepts your requests.
Lyrics lookup (lrclib.net): With lyrics turned on, the title and artist of the track being played are sent to lrclib.net, a public lyrics database. The request is made only while lyrics are open and carries no account information or identifier. No request is made when the words are found in YouTube’s own captions.
Thumbnails (i.ytimg.com): Artwork in the lists and in the player bar is loaded directly from YouTube’s image servers.
Zero third-party trackers: No telemetry, no analytics, and no advertising network requests are made.

4. Permissions and Why They Are Needed

storage — To save your player preferences (mode, theme, volume) locally on your device.
Host permissions (https://*.youtube.com/*) — To inject and display RenewTube's clean player interface on YouTube pages. The extension runs on no other web page. Lyrics, when turned on, make the lrclib.net request described in section 3.

5. Third Parties

Because RenewTube functions entirely inside YouTube, video streaming and authentication are governed by Google/YouTube's privacy policy. RenewTube does not have access to your account password or credentials. Lyrics use lrclib.net, a public lyrics database, whose own policy applies to that request. Only a track title and an artist name are sent.

6. Children

The extension is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone of any age.
